Energy Australia Stadium, Newcastle, NSW.

In 2003 as Curator at EnergyAustralia Stadium (Newcastle), I could foresee that the ground was nearing the time for a reconstruction, proactively I began researching turf species for a reconstruction. I decided to trial a number of potential turf species that would be suitable for the stadium. The turf species used in the trial were Cynodon dactylon ‘Conquest’, Cynodon dactylon ‘Legends’ and Paspalum vaginatum ‘Sea Isle’.

Although the ‘Sea Isle’ had the best colour, it was ‘Conquest’ that was far superior to the other trial species. The aggressive nature of the ‘Conquest’ saw it literary grow over its competitors, with at least twice the growth rate. After extensive wear its recovery rate was the fastest and with its excellent rhizome, stolon and root structure I confidentially decided that ‘Conquest’ was the most suited for my needs.

In December 2004 with the help of Geoff Hatton, from Manoeuvre Mow I chaffed the stadium surface with ‘Conquest’. Six weeks after planting, a stolon was 500mm in length, extraordinary considering that there was no foliage growth in the first two weeks. The surface was playable after 8 weeks.

In late June 2005 the ‘Conquest’ is still quite active for couch (considering the time of year) with shoots and white roots still appearing out of the nodes. This will allow for easy removal of the rye grass and re-establishing the ‘Conquest’ to a mono strain in spring, earlier then usual.

Due to the favourable characteristics of ‘Conquest’ that is, its aggressive nature and the reduced dormancy period. I have no hesitation in recommending this brilliant couch to other greenkeepers.

Parramatta Stadium

"Being one of the first places where Conquest Couch was trialled, I have found the couch to be extremely hard wearing. We have placed it in sections of our main oval, as well as in front of our main ticket box where it has survived, where other couches have struggled. I believe that Conquest Couch will be the leader in the market when it comes to requiring a turf that is quick to establish, had good colour retention and recovers well from damage."

Killara Golf Club

"During December 2000, we made a decision to trial "Conquest Couch", on two of our tees, to evaluate its performance over the following twelve months. Conquest provided a dense mat, strong root and rhizome development, and provided good colour retention during winter.
Since then, the Conquest has supplied exceptional results in its performance, particularly with divot recovery. Another plus that this grass displayed, was resistance to diseases during the humid months of summer and the avoidance of excessive build up of thatch, which leads to scalping - a problem we have experienced with some other couch grasses.
We have now redeveloped a number of tees using Conquest Couch, with excellent results and have plans to resurface the remaining Kikuyu tees with Conquest in an effort to reduce costs and provide a superior surface for the benefit of our membership."

"Roseville Golf Club trialled different grasses for its tees for an alternative to Kikuyu. Conquest Couch was selected and laid on the new 9th tee. It has performed extremely well and has just been laid on the 4th tee. Conquest will be used in any future tee reconstruction."

"At Muirfield Golf Club, we have just finished the construction of 7 tee complexes and chose "Conquest" couch over the rest, due to its hardiness, wear tolerance and winter colour. "Conquest" has thick stolons, that help stop large divots being sliced out, that assist with divot recovery. Its lateral growth was also a major plus, with less mowing required but still good recovery. It has great wear tolerance, which is what we need with a high traffic course. It was a simple decision in the end to use "Conquest", as it had all of the factors that I was looking for in a couch.

"Just wanted to say thanks for the great Conquest we had purchased off you. It has been a little over 6 months since we had it installed on our new home. It is now the middle of winter and still green and growing, mind you, I do give it a bit of fertiliser to keep it thick and lush. I am glad we went with Conquest, as we wanted a fine leafed lawn and didn't like the wider leafed grasses.
I can proudly say I do have the best lawn in my street and I have even had people knock on my door to ask me what type of lawn I have.
Thanks again",

Ray Mckay

PS "As we have been so happy with Conquest, I have referred it to many of my family and friends who are looking at laying a new lawn."
